The June meeting
was graciously hosted by Tina and John Weimer. A delicious
dinner of fried chicken, sandwich rolls, salads and several
desserts was served.
A meeting was called to order by Keith Baggus.
The application for Greenberg Train Show was not sent since
there were not enough members to help set up.
There was a discussion of the club's property. John passed out
detailed inventory handouts on the property that the club owns.
There was also a discussion on whether or not we can still do
displays due to the aging and health of the club members.
Followed was a discussion as to how we could build up
membership.
Some suggestions were:
Ken's daughter, Laurie, suggested maintaining a PGRS Facebook
page. Apparently Facebook PGRS related pages exist which are
misleading and out of date. She also suggested we create a
Q(uick) R(esponse) Code to show on our displays. The QR code
would allow people to take a picture of it on their phones with
the aim of getting people to visit our website.
Keith suggested that the Carnegie Historical Society has set up
a G Scale town of Carnegie and a few months ago was looking for
someone to set up a corresponding train display. He was going to
look into it. Bert volunteered to go with Keith. Clark made a
motion to contact Carnegie about a layout and perhaps
educational space and a base shop. Bert seconded the motion.
To develop an interest in the club, it was suggested that
perhaps we set up a smaller display on tables. It was also
brought up that young families may not feel they have the
finances to invest in larger displays but perhaps we could
create a starter display.
It was also mentioned we could work with the local Boy and Girl
Scouts on railroad and electronics merit badges, classes, etc.
which would create interest for parents and their children.
There was also a discussion about members’ willingness to
conduct educational classes. Laurie made the comment that there
is a lot of knowledge and experience at our tables that would go
to waste if not shared with the young.
Dave suggested doing a show at the Trolley Museum and shows like
that. It was also mentioned that we need to update our poster
and fliers.
Keith talked about some train trips for the club:
• East Broad Top Railroad in Rockhill, Pa.
• Oil Creek and Titusville Railroad, Titusville, PA
• One day trips, travel on your own and meet there.
Bert suggested the Hocking Valley Dinner Train as a train trip
that he enjoyed.
If you are going to the G Scale Flea Market on Saturday 7/10 in
Warren, Ohio 10am-4pm, there is a great layout in the basement
of the YMCA to enjoy.
Tina and John requested money to purchase more inventory to
complete the traveling display instead of always borrowing Ken's
track and using member’s locomotives. The G Scale Flea Market
may provide an opportunity to fill some holes.
It was pointed out that the 14 people at the meeting are the
core group, and nothing would get done without their efforts.
There will be no July meeting at this point – no one volunteered
to host.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dan Cinowalt
